Zathu is an initiative of Girl Effect, a registered charity in England and Wales. Girl Effect’s company number is 07516619 and our registered charity number is 1141155. Our address is Ingeni Building, 17 Broadwick Street, London, W1F 0AX. We also have offices in Malawi.
Girl Effect owns and operates Zathu. Zathu is made up of several different products, i.e. a website Zathu.com and its supporting hosting sites, a Facebook page, weekly radio show, SMS service, events, clubs and a magazine. Zathu aims to provide vital information and entertaining content for girls and boys.

2. How do we collect your personal information?
When you use Zathu, you share personal information with us in a number of ways, including: Creating a membership on or subscription of Zathu; Participating in polls or surveys; Sharing content (for example comments or photos) through any of our Zathu products; and General information gathered from your use of Zathu.
3. What types of personal information do we collect?
When you use Zathu, we may collect the following pieces of personal information: name, age, gender, contact details including mobile number or email, any personal information you share in content, any personal information you share when participating in polls or surveys and basic information from your use of Zathu (for example, which materials you visit, and how frequently).
Some of this information may be considered “sensitive” personal information. This includes information about your health, sexuality, ethnicity, political and religious beliefs.
4. What do we do with your information?
We use your personal information in a number of ways: to administer your membership or subscription of Zathu, to improve Zathu and its offerings, to perform research and provide analysis of our work.
Unless required by the law, we will not share your personal information with any other party. We may share general data with third parties, particularly to help with research, but your information will always be anonymised first so that you are not identifiable.
5. How do we protect your personal information?
To protect your personal information, we use a number of security measures. Your personal information is contained on secure networks, and is only accessible to a limited number of individuals.
Despite all of our precautions however, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. So, whilst we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information which you disclose to us and you must understand that you do so at your own risk.
6. Your consent
By providing us with your personal information, including sensitive personal information, you agree that we may collect and use this information, provided that we collect, store and use your information in the ways set out in the privacy policy. We operate internationally, and so often need to transfer personal information across borders. You also consent to us transferring your information to countries or jurisdictions outside of Malawi, if necessary for the purposes set out in this policy. These countries may not provide the same level of data protection as Malawi. If we do make such a transfer, we will, if appropriate, put a contract in place to ensure your information is protected.

7. How long do we hold your personal information?
In regards to how long we hold your personal information, we process your personal information based upon your consent. In certain cases we may also rely on it being in our legitimate interests to process your personal information. These legitimate interests include the administration of your membership, subscription or profile.
We will keep your personal data for as long as you use Zathu. If you withdraw your consent, we will permanently delete your personal information. We may, however, retain the anonymised data which came from your personal information.
8. Your rights
You have a right to access the personal data that we hold about you. You also have a right to request that we rectify any inaccurate personal data that we hold, and, in certain cases, to ask us to erase any of your personal data that we hold. If you are unhappy with the way in which your personal data has been handled you are entitled to make a complaint.
